    Richard E. Tremblay, après avoir fait un baccalauréat en éducation physique, a fait sa maîtrise en psychoéducation et son doctorat en psychologie à l'Université de Londres. Il est présentement professeur de psychologie/pédiatrie/psychiatrie et directeur du Groupe de recherche sur l'inadaptation psychosociale chez l'enfant de l'Université de Montréal. Il est aussi titulaire de la Chaire de recherche du Canada sur le développement de l'enfant, directeur du Centre de recherche de l'enquête longitudinale nationale sur les enfants et les jeunes, et membre du National Consortium on Violence Research des États-Unis.

    Il est également directeur du Centre d'excellence pour le développement des jeunes enfants (CEDJE) et du Centre du savoir sur l'apprentissage chez les jeunes enfants, qui réunissent des experts canadiens et internationaux dont la mission principale est de recueillir, d'analyser et de diffuser des connaissances fiables, compréhensibles, applicables et utiles au développement et à l'apprentissage des jeunes enfants et à leur bien-être.

    Depuis 1982, Richard E. Tremblay mène des recherches longitudinales et expérimentales sur le développement physique, cognitif, émotionnel et social depuis la conception jusqu'à l'âge adulte. Ces études, qui sont menées auprès de larges échantillons québécois et canadiens, ont pour objectif de mieux comprendre et de prévenir le développement des problèmes de comportements et de l'agressivité, et aussi d'évaluer les effets à court et à long terme de programmes d'intervention visant à prévenir et à réduire les problèmes d'adaptation chez les jeunes.
