    Intérêts de recherche

    Nos études s’intéressent aux mécanismes sous-tendant l'origine développementale de pathologies apparaissant à l’âge adulte, dont l’hypertension artérielle. Plus spécifiquement, nous voulons découvrir comment un stress oxydant durant la période périnatale peut modifier le développement fonctionnel et structurel du système cardiovasculaire.

    Recherche animale

    Des facteurs anténataux ou néonataux peuvent influencer l’apparition d’hypertension artérielle à l’âge adulte. Afin d’étudier ce processus, nous utilisons des modèles murins. Dans un cas, la diète est altérée, ce qui cause un léger retard de croissance chez les bébés, ainsi qu'une dysfonction vasculaire et une hypertension à l’âge adulte. Dans un autre modèle, les nouveau-nés sont exposés à une concentration élevée en oxygène au cours des premiers jours de vie, ce qui mène aussi à une dysfonction vasculaire et une hypertension chez l’adulte. Les études au laboratoire examinent les mécanismes de cette programmation développementale de l’hypertension artérielle, plus particulièrement au niveau du développement rénal, de la structure et de la fonction vasculaire.

    Recherche clinique

    Une cohorte mère-enfant est suivie afin de déterminer la corrélation entre des facteurs anté- et périnataux, des mesures de stress oxydant en cours de grossesse et l’incidence de dysfonction vasculaire au cours de l’enfance.
