    Sommaire de carrière

    Les recherches effectuées par notre laboratoire portent sur la biologie des infections associées au virus d'Epstein-Barr (VEB) et sur la lymphoprolifération des cellules B induite par le VEB chez les patients immunodéficients. Notre laboratoire était le premier à démontrer une corrélation directe entre la charge virale VEB et le développement du syndrome lymphoprolifératif post-transplantation (PTLD). Cette découverte a eu un impact important sur le diagnostic/pronostic et sur la gestion préventive des PTLD. Une étude de suivi a démontré qu'un deuxième marqueur pouvait être utilisé conjointement avec la charge virale afin de mieux définir les patients à haut risque de PTLD. Plus récemment, notre laboratoire s'est donné le défi d'élaborer un antiviral avec de l'activité catalytique contre le virus de l'hépatite C (VHC). Cet antiviral, nommé déoxyribozyme, a la capacité de cliver l'ARN du VHC contenu dans les cellules transfectées avec le génome VHC de pleine longueur. Des études in vivo utilisant un modèle infectieux chez la souris xénogreffée sont maintenant en cours pour étudier l'application clinique potentielle de notre déoxyribozyme.
