    Sommaire de carrière

    Mara Brendgen a obtenu son doctorat en psychologie et éducation à la Freie Universität Berlin en 1996. Par la suite, elle a entrepris des études postdoctorales au Groupe de recherche sur l'inadaptation psychosociale chez l'enfant (GRIP) à l'Université de Montréal et au Centre de recherche sur le développement humain à l'Université Concordia. En 2000, Dr Brendgen a obtenu un poste de chercheur au centre de recherche du CHU Ste-Justine. En 2001, elle a joint le Département de psychologie de l'Université du Québec à Montréal comme professeure adjointe et a obtenu la permanence en 2005 et la titularisation en 2011.

    Ses intérêts de recherche portent sur les liens entre, d’une part, les facteurs individuels, familiaux et sociaux et, d’autre part, le développement de l’agressivité et de la victimisation chez les enfants et les adolescents. En plus de s’intéresser aux facteurs de risque associés à l’agressivité et à la victimisation, Dr Brendgen étudie leurs effets à moyen et long terme sur le développement psychosocial et sur la santé mentale et physique des jeunes. Deux autres sujets retiennent son attention. Le premier concerne les facteurs de modération (les caractéristiques personnelles, les relations d’amitié, la relation avec la fratrie, la relation de l’enfant avec ses parents, etc.) susceptibles de protéger l’enfant vis-à-vis des conséquences possibles de ses conduites agressives ou de ses expériences de victimisation. Le second touche aux mécanismes susceptibles de rendre compte des liens longitudinaux entre les conduites agressives, les expériences de victimisation et les problèmes d’adaptation ultérieurs. Ces mécanismes se rapportent en particulier aux échanges bi-directionnels qui résultent de l’interaction entre les dispositions personnelles des enfants (leur vulnérabilité génétique) et leurs interactions quotidiennes avec les parents, les enseignants et les pairs. Ses travaux de recherche sont financés par divers organismes nationaux et provinciaux, dont les IRSC, le CRSH et le FQRSC.
