    Sommaire de carrière

    Dr Lapointe est pédiatre immunologue au CHU Sainte-Justine depuis 1971. Il est le chef du Service d'immunologie-allergie-rhumatologie. Il y a est également été directeur de l'unité hospitalière de recherche, d'enseignement et de soins pour le sida. Au point de vue académique, il est professeur agrégé au Département de pédiatrie de l'Université de Montréal et a été directeur de l'enseignement au CHU Sainte-Justine de 1998 à 2002.

    Depuis le début de l'épidémie du sida, il est clinicien et chercheur auprès des femmes et des enfants touchés par le VIH. Il a reçu en 1997 le prix Louis-Pasteur pour l'excellence en médecine dans la lutte contre le sida. Il est impliqué tant au niveau local, national qu'international. Ses travaux ont permis l'avancement des connaissances portant sur l'infection par le VIH auprès des femmes et des enfants. Ses activités de recherche touchent notamment l'immunologie et les différents aspects de la transmission du VIH de la mère à l'enfant. Ses recherches touchent également les aspects psychosociaux de l'infection par le VIH chez les femmes et certains aspects économiques de différents modèles d'interventions. Ses activités internationales ont permis le développement de modèles de prise en charge adaptés à la situation en Haïti et en Afrique (Mali). Il est d'ailleurs secrétaire général pour l'Amérique à l'intérieur de l'Organisation panafricaine de lutte contre le sida.
