    Le professeur Jacques A. de Guise a complété un baccalauréat en génie électrique en 1977, puis un doctorat en génie biomédical en 1984 à l’École Polytechnique Montréal. Il a ensuite effectué un stage postdoctoral de 1984 à 1986 au Computer Vision and Robotics Laboratory de l'Université McGill comme boursier du Conseil de recherche en sciences naturelles et en génie du Canada (CRSNG). Il est aujourd'hui professeur titulaire au Département de génie de la production automatisée de l’ÉTS. Il est titulaire de la Chaire de recherche du Canada en imagerie 3D et ingénierie biomédicale depuis 2004 et détient également la Chaire Marie-Lou et Yves Cotrel de recherche en orthopédie de la Faculté de médecine de l’Université de Montréal et du Centre de recherche du CHUM. De même, il occupe le poste de professeur associé au Département de chirurgie de la Faculté de médecine de l'Université de Montréal et de chercheur associé au Laboratoire de biomécanique de l’École nationale supérieure d’arts et métiers de Paris. Il dirige le Laboratoire de recherche en imagerie et orthopédie (LIO), affilié à l’ÉTS ainsi qu’aux centres de recherche du CHUM, du CHU Sainte-Justine et de l’Hôpital Sacré-Cœur, tous situés à Montréal.

    Ses intérêts de recherche sont l'imagerie et la modélisation 3D des structures biologiques. Plus spécifiquement, il s’intéresse aux applications des technologies d’imagerie médicale, de graphisme par ordinateur, de modélisation géométrique et de conception assistée par ordinateur dans les domaines de la modélisation et de la chirurgie de la colonne vertébrale, des articulations et du système vasculaire. Les pathologies visées par les travaux du professeur de Guise sont la scoliose, l’arthrose et les traumatismes lésionnels de l’appareil locomoteur ainsi que les anévrismes et les sténoses du système vasculaire.

    Il a publié, avec ses collaborateurs et étudiants, plus de 80 articles dans des revues scientifiques avec comité de lecture et plus de 250 résumés de conférence. Il a aussi participé à la rédaction d’une dizaine de brevets d’invention qui sont exploités par des sociétés québécoises et françaises oeuvrant spécifiquement dans le secteur des technologies de la santé. Le professeur de Guise détient des subventions de recherche du Conseil de recherche en sciences naturelles et en génie du Canada, des Instituts de recherche en santé du Canada, de la Fondation canadienne pour l’innovation et du Fonds québécois de la recherche sur la nature et les technologies. Il a aussi à son actif plusieurs contrats de recherche effectués avec des entreprises canadiennes, américaines et françaises.
